This bottle was originally thought to be signed Shi Ketong (Shi Gedong in pinyin). It was assumed to be an alternative name for Zhou Leyuan to whom it was attributed at the time. While it still may be early work by Zhou, since it seems similar to others in the style of the commercial school from which he either emerged, or that inspired him to take up the art form, we are no longer convinced that what we read as a name is one. The text, in so far as we can make it out, is:
眾鳥高飛盡, 孤雲獨去閒. 相?尋酒伴, ?過石格東.
The first two lines are from Li Bo:
A flock of birds flies high and is gone; A single cloud goes off alone and at ease. The third line talks about finding a drinking companion and ends with the character 閒.
